Rubus phoenicolasius is a deciduous Shrub growing to 9ft by 3ft at a medium rate.
It is in flower from June to July, and the seeds ripen from August to September. The species is hermaphrodite (has both male and female organs) and is pollinated by Insects.
Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade. It prefers moist soil. Althought they have sharp prickly thorns they are very small and soft and not hard to pick unlike a blackberry

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw or cooked. Sweet and juicy, A raspberry-type fruit, it is smaller than a raspberry, contains a lot of seeds and but is a flavourful fruit. After flowering, the fruit is enclosed in its calyx until just before it is ripe, this prevents maggots etc getting into the fruit. They are sticky from all thge sugars when you pick them too.
